Important Note from the FCC: Prior to March 25, 2008, the license term for GMDSS Radio Operator’s Licenses, Restricted GMDSS Radio Operator’s Licenses, GMDSS Radio Maintainer’s Licenses, GMDSS Radio Operator/Maintainer Licenses, and Marine Radio Operator Permits was five years. Any holder of a GMDSS Radio Operator’s License, Restricted GMDSS Radio Operator’s License, GMDSS Radio Maintainer’s License, GMDSS Radio Operator/Maintainer License, or Marine Radio Operator Permit that expired prior to March 25, 2008, must still file an application to renew the license or permit within the five-year grace period after expiration. Any GMDSS Radio Operator’s License, Restricted GMDSS Radio Operator’s License, GMDSS Radio Maintainer’s License, GMDSS Radio Operator/Maintainer License, or Marine Radio Operator Permit that was active, i.e., had not expired, as of March 25, 2008, does not have to be renewed. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Marine Safety qualifications are open to Auxiliarists are based on the needs of the individual Sector. If a Sector has no need of Auxiliary support in a particular program area, it is not available to Auxiliarists in that area. Check with your Auxiliary Marine Safety staff chain to determine the PQSs available in your area.
The below list of PQSs are the only PQSs currently available to Auxiliarists. No other qualifications are authorized (see ALCOAST 505/08 and ALCOAST 45/10).
The following two (2) PQSs are Auxiliary-specific and the Letter of Designation is issued by the District DIRAUX.
